CHAPTER: 1 SUB-CHAPTER: 2
PRAISE OF LORD GANESH
ShriRam
[1]
Om, Salute to lord Ganesha. The origin of Knowledge, the giver of the fruit of success. The One who removes ignorance and delusion through Knowledge. The One who is in the form of Knowledge itself.
[2]
You reside within, at all times. Full with Knowledge . You make one who is deficient in speech able to speak by your blessings.
[3]
With the power of your blessings, the clouds of delusion melt away, and time, which devours all the world becomes yours slave. [One moves out from the clutches of time and space.]
[4]
By your blessings, obstacles and problems become powerless and are driven away with the mere utterance of your name.
[5]
You are named as the "Destroyer of Obstacles." You are like a shelter is to orphans, for us. Even the Gods, Shiva and Vishnu, bow to you.
[6]
By bowing to you, the "Reservoir of Good Omen," all tasks get accomplished. Calamities, obstacles, and troubles cannot affect in any way.
[7]
On remembering you, one experiences ultimate contentment. As the mind is fixed on you, the body becomes meaningless.
[8]
Your appearance with attributes is like a treasure. It is overwhelming beautiful, and attractive. All the Gods become motionless when they see your dance.
[9]
All the time in ecstasy, you sway with joy and happiness, with a feeling of lightness and ease, and you have such a highly delighted face.
[10]
Your form is imposing and mammoth. A body, massive, with immense strength, with a large forehead where red powder is applied in plenty.
[11]
Many different fragrances drip from the forehead, while the spreading aroma attracts swarms of bees, with a rosounding humming.
[12]
Your bent trunk shines when when it is seen straightened. Your lips slowly drip nectar every moment, with soothing purity.
[13]
Lord of 14 different streams of knowledge, Your tiny eyes flicker around, and your huge ears make a flapping sound, again and again
[14]
Your crown adorned with gems, shines with beautiful colors spreading brightness everywhere. And your earrings sparkle and radiate light.
[15]
Your teeth are white and strong, surrounded with a golden ring studded with gems. At the rim of the ring are hanging little ornaments, which sparkle gently.
[16]
Loose and large is Your abdomen girdled tightly with a serpent. Tiny bells make a soft jingling sound as You swing and move here and there.
[17]
You have four arms and drooping large abdomen, and a yellow silk loin cloth tied around the waist. The hooded cobra round the belly emanates a hissing sound.
[18]
The serpent nods his head with tongue darting out. It is coiled around Your waist with his head rising out of the naval region glancing around.
[19]
You are adorned with garlands of many varieties of flowers, hanging down from the neck up to the naval region. A pendant shines with gems at Your lotus heart.
[20]
You carry an axe in one hand, a Lotus in an other, a sharp piece of elephant tusk glistens in the third hand, and Your favorite sweet is in the forth.
[21]
Your dance and acts are carried out with so many varied expressions. You dance to the rhythms of the cymbals and tabor, as well as other musical instruments. The music accompanies Your movements very nicely with the sounds.
[22]
Not steady even for a moment, You excel in swiftness. Your beauty and grace are signs of auspiciousness.
[23]
The anklets on Your feet make a marvelous tinkling sound and are very graceful and pleasing to the mind as You dance.
24]
In meeting the Lord, the divine garment spreads its illumination. You make all of the 8 types of literature easily accessible and ready at your service.
[25]
Your body is beautiful as all facets of Knowledge. I prostrate with highest regards to you, the "Storehouse of Knowledge".
[26]
While describing the form of Ganesha, even the enlightenment given by intelligence gets confused praising His qualities. On hearing this even the Goddess of Wisdom (Saraswati) is delighted.
[27]
Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer, all worship Lord Ganesha. Even those who are most wretched, become attentive, and expert in all the subjects, if they contemplate upon lord Ganesha.
[28]
Not only the foolish and inauspicious, but also those who are lower than the lowest also become alert, and expert in all aspects when contemplating Him.
[29]
He is such a powerful and accomplished One that He can fulfill all the aspirations for one who sings praises (Bhajans). In the Kaliyuga, Lord Ganesha and Saraswati are the awakening deities.
* Footnote - Lord Ganesha - he is considered to be the seat of intellect in human beings. Hence all learning comes form him.
[30]
Praise to Lord Ganesha with all my intellect, He who does good to all, the remover of doubts. Praise Him who is so sacred, always keeping in mind the desire for "Supreme Truth" (Parmartha), the ultimate objective in life.
Thus ends, in Dasbodh, a guru disciple dialogue, the second sub-chapter named "Praise of Lord Ganesha"
