SUB- CHAPTER: 10
DEHA-ANTA-NIRUPANA-NAAMA
EXPLANATION OF THE END OF THE PHYSICAL BODY
Shreeram
That which is unreal has become real, and that which is Real itself has become unreal. Like this is the act of shrouded illusion. This can be seen.
In order to know the Truth, many explanations are given. Still, one cannot wipe away the grasp of the untrue.
The untrue became established within, without being explained, it became firm. The Truth became lost, there, where it is.
The Vedas, and Puranas tell of the truth with positive resolve, still one cannot get the experience of the Self in its true form.
The Truth became covered even though it is Real, and the untrue became as Real even though it is non-existent. Like this, a distortion has happened, just within the wink of an eye.
Such is the deed of illusion. Come to know of this in the moment, in the company of Saints, giving deep thought to their explanations.
Previously the explanation was given and one has seen One's Self. With that explanation, one has seen the signs of the supreme knowledge of Reality.
With that one becomes contented, and the thinking merges with pure consciousness. One's own nature recognizes the reality of itself.
The body is left to its destiny, and with knowledge doubt is removed. Whether the body falls dead or remains, its false nature is seen with understanding.
The body of the knowledgeable is seen as false, and passionless. Wherever it falls, that place is essentially a pious place.
With the presence of sages, the places of pilgrimage become pure. Wishes are fulfilled there. Without the sages visiting there, those places are useless.
The thought of many people is that the body should fall dead on the bank of the pious river. However, the sages are always in the state of liberation.
Many believe that if one dies while the progress of the northern hemisphere is towards the sun, it is the best time, and if one dies during the time while the progress of the southern hemisphere is towards the sun, it is a bad time. This belief is held by the deluded. The sage, is beyond any such doubts.
Many believe that during the first half-year, when the northern hemisphere is moving towards the sun, when there is light in the house, during day time, one must draw their last breath, and at that last moment, one must remember god, in order to attain liberation.
All of these beliefs are not required by the yogis. They are liberated and pious. They have put an end to the notions of virtuous deeds and sins.
If the end of the body happens in a good way, and one goes in comfort, it is said that he is blessed by ignorant people.
The opinion of ignorant people is absurd that only after death, one meets god. Imagining like this, they betray their own Self.
If while living, if one's life is not made worthwhile, then life has passed away uselessly. When primarily the seeds of grain are not sown, how then will the crop come?
If one sings in worship of god, only then does he become pure. Like properly investing wealth, one gains in the fortune one earns.
Without giving, one does not receive, and without sowing one cannot reap. This statement is known to all people.
Without doing deeds of service, one cannot ask for pay from one's employer. In the same way, a non-devotional person cannot gain salvation.
While living if there is no devotion to God, on dying how can one be liberated? Accordingly, all the actions that are done by people, they will get the same in return.
Thus without singing the worship of beloved God, one does not become pure at the end. Even if one gets a good death, still without devotion there is a downfall.
Therefore while living one must make his life worthwhile. His body, if properly used, will come to be blessed.
Those who are liberated with Self-knowledge, their bodies may fall in the forest, or in the cemetery, still they are blessed.
If the body of a sage decays and rots, or is eaten up by dogs, it is not considered good by people because of their dull intellect.
If the end is not good, people become worried, because the ignorant don't understand True Substance.
For the one who is not born, how can death come to him? With the power of deep discrimination he has put an end to the vicious cycle of birth and death.
By the strength of continuously being in one's True Nature, the entirety of illusion disappears. The depth of this cannot be understood even by Brahma and the other gods.
One who is dead while living, has killed death. To him there is no remembrance of birth and death as a result of deep discrimination.
He is seen among people, but remains indifferent. In his actions he appears different. Worldly objects do not touch such a pure one.
So it is such with the saintly ones that they happen to become worshipped. And by their worship, others also become pure.
The aspirant who comes under the protection of the Sadguru, must make use of deep discrimination. By using discrimination, logic gets shattered with the aid of explanation.
This pure non-duality is being explained so that you yourself can acquire contentment like that of a sage.
One who surrenders to the Saints, becomes and remains a Saint, and comes to the help of other people, giving understanding, with compassion.
Such is the greatness of the saints that with their company, one gains Self-knowledge. There is no other practice like the association with Saints.
With the support of the songs of worship of the guru, by reflecting on His explanations, and with the purifying of one's actions, with firm resolve, one can acquire that state.
The birthplace of supreme spirituality, is the Sadguru. With the songs of worship of the Sadguru, contentment is acquired immediately.
Realizing that body is unreal, the living being makes this understanding worthwhile. Sing the songs of worship with deep feeling and please the thoughts of the Sadguru.
The Sadguru is the giver, who cares for the worries of those who have surrendered. He is like the mother who nurtures a child, making many efforts.
One who sings the songs of worship of the Sadguru, is blessed. Without the Sadguru there is no contentment in anything.
The trouble of words comes to an end as the end of the text is near. Here it is told clearly about the songs of worship of the sadguru.
Other than the songs of worship of the sadguru, nothing else is given here. Nothing else will give liberation. To one who does not agree, and this is not acceptable, he should read the Guru-geeta.
There Lord Shiva has told his wife Parvati in a nice way about the worship of the sadguru. With deep feeling, one should serve at the feet of the sadguru.
The aspirant who with deep discrimination analyzes this text, sees and will find, the only one resolution of knowledge.
That which is said in this text is about non-duality. This cannot be said to be just ordinary words. Recognize the truth of Vedanta in it's true meaning.
In common language, the knowledge of Vedanta and all that is contained in the Shastras can be easily understood, and contentment settles in the mind.
Talk such as this should not be considered as ordinary where the attainment of knowledge is concerned. How can this be understood by one who is foolish? It is like a monkey trying to understand a coconut.
Now, let this talk be as it is. Take according to your capacity. The pearl in the shell should not be considered as less valuable.
It is where the Vedanta says "not this, not this", that the cleverness of words cannot work. Parabrahman, the Ultimate Reality, is from the beginning until the end, beyond words.
Thus in Dasbodh, a guru - disciple dialogue, the subchapter named The explanation of the end of the physical body comes to and end.
