Proposal to Establish a Center for Paramartha

The word Paramartha is commonly used in two ways. One way that it is used is as a pointer to indicate "Supreme Meaning" or Ultimate Truth. The second way that the word Paramartha is used is in a general way to indicate the living of a spiritual lifestyle in all of its many facets. The classic spiritual text Dasbodh contains teachings that exemplify both of these ways of using the word Paramartha. In Dasbodh the spiritual aspirant can come to understand both Supreme Meaning and the means for living a truly meaningful spiritual life.

A center for Paramartha would be based firmly on the teachings and principles of Advaita Vedanta, which are very clear and direct teachings that address all aspects of life. Countless aspirants have been liberated throughout the ages with the proper utilization of these teachings and with the guidance of those who have understood them correctly. Having their foundation in the teachings of Advaita Vedanta, a center or ashram for Paramartha will not be a place where the teachings or the students are subject to the whims and fancies of individual personalities. The teachings and practices that take place in such a Center would be based upon practical time-tested and proven approaches to Self-Knowledge and spiritual awakening. A center or ashram based in Paramartha is not intended to be an escape from one's life, but a place where sincere aspirants can go to deepen their spiritual understanding, and learn how to integrate that understanding and spiritual practice into their daily lives.

In these modern times, all around us we can see society in a state of general decline where many people are looking for an environment where they can carry on spiritual practices and take an occasional retreat from the daily mundane life. The establishment of such a center for Paramartha is what is being proposed here. The vision is that a center for Paramartha will be a place where spiritual aspirants can come to meditate, study spiritual texts, be involved in spiritual discourse, and even be involved in singing devotional songs and chants, and worshipping God if they desired. There seems to be a great need and a growing demand for such places, especially in the West. Many seekers and aspirants are sincerely looking for such a place of spiritual refuge and solace in this day and age.

If you feel some resonance with what is being presented here and would like to be involved with establishing such a center for Paramartha, I strongly encourage you to follow that inclination in your heart. The world truly is in need of such places, and even sustainable self-reliant communities that are founded around spiritual life and awakening in Self-Knowledge.

Please contact me if you are interested in such a center or share the vision of making a center for Paramartha a reality. What greater legacy can we hope to leave behind for future generations than lasting places of spiritual solace and awakening?
